vehicles. These global automakers are slowly moving from conventional to alternative power, as the technology is developed and refined. Current battery technology allows a maximum range of about 125 miles per charge.
An alternative fuel vehicle or AFV is any vehicle that runs on an alternative fuel. There are many types of alternative fuel vehicles, but the main types and the four that we will focus on are compressed gas, electric, hybrid, and bio-diesel. Alternative fuel vehicles are the wave of the future and a possible necessity as gas prices continue to soar. Alternative fuel vehicles have many appealing attributes, but whether the cost is in performance or practicality, alternative fuel vehicles come at a price.
The first type of AFV that we will discuss is the compressed gas vehicle. A compressed gas vehicle is a normal vehicle that has been modified to run on compressed gas. The modification includes installing a special fuel tank slot to be able to refuel the vehicle. The compressed gas can be anything from hydrogen, methane, propane, to nitrogen. Running a vehicle on compressed gas considerably lowers the vehicle's emissions at the cost of the vehicle's performance. Compressed gas vehicles would be a poor choice for Lotus Co. due to the unavailability of finding a place for parts, refueling, and the performing of repairs and services.
The second option that we are going to consider is the electric vehicle. The electric vehicle has absolutely no emissions. However, this does not mean that electric vehicles do not produce waste and pollution. The only power that comes from the air is solar power and
