Blackout

During the blackout of 2003 I was home trimming the hedges at my house. I had only been doing it for about 10 minutes before the trimmer just seemed to die. Since it was an electrical one and I had to use 4 extension cords to reach the hedges. I just thought one of the extension cords had unplugged somewhere along the line. After messing around trying to find the reason it wasn't working for about another 10 minutes I finally went inside and realized the power had gone out. I was happy at first because I didn't have to finish the hedges.
It wasn't till about 5:00 p.m. till my mom had found out there was a black out across the whole east coast. She immediately drove over to Stewarts to pick up some ice and bottled water. She said it was a madhouse over there. We still had water from the tap though. That day I was supposed to go over to Garring Park in Fishkill to play basketball with some of my friends, but due to the Black Out my mom didn't want me to drive over there. So that ruined the rest of my day. After that the rest of the day was spent mostly by talking and listening to the radio. I also watched TV with my grandma's handheld TV. After falling asleep watching a pre-season football game, I woke up and found out that the power was back on. This made my Friday a lot more enjoyable. Since the Black Out my mom said she is definitely going to purchase a gas generator incase something of this sort every happens again.
