Robert E. Lee

            When a person hears the word leader, they may think of someone of great nobility or even higher
            
             rank. When I think of the word "leader", a name comes to mind, Robert Edward Lee.
            
             Leadership is a quality that possesses self discipline in thought as well as in action. On the field,
            
             General Lee led many of his troops through fierce battles and at home his political career, gain the respect
            
             and admiration of his supporters. In many articles he is noted as a gentleman in every sense of the word.
            
             Robert E. Lee was born to Harry Lee and Ann Hill Lee. Harry Lee was one of the most famous people in wartime history. Harry was nicknamed Light Horse Harry, because he was successful in capturing 400 British soldiers with the loss of only one man, in a surprise attack at Paulus Hook, New Jersey. His skillful and quick horsemanship earned him this name.
             Harry Lee married Matilda Lee, his cousin, after resigning his commission shortly after the British surrender at Yorktown. The couple's wedding was held in Stratford, Virginia. After Matilda's father passed away from heart failure, Matilda inherited Stratford _____, where they lived. Harry was elected to the new Virginia House of Delegates. After only eight years of marriage, Matilda died in 1790. Harry was left with their three children. In 1792 Harry was elected Governor of Virginia. He then served three one-year terms. While serving these terms in Richmond he met and fell in love with a young lady by the name of Ann Hill Carter. By 1973 the two were married, with Harry's governorship behind him. Ann and Harry went to Stratford to start their new life. Family life was once again interrupted by Harry's appointment to the Continental Congress in Philadelphia.
