             With the coming of the Renaissance came the corruption of the Catholic Church. Many people began to question the lifestyles of the Church leaders and also the teaching's of the Church. Leaders were supposed to guide the people and set an example of God's work, yet many of them started to think and act like Renaissance princes. They were more interested in making money then in following Jesus' example of being poor and humble. At the same time, new nation-states emerged, and Kings of these states wanted more power over the Church.
             Martin Luther had a very different idea of faith in his time. At first, he struggled with anxiety about being saved, but he then concluded that faith alone saves us. The Church believed that faith and good works saves; however the Church stressed good works more while Martin Luther stressed faith. The acts of the Church led people to think their donations could buy heaven for them and their loved ones. Another difference between Luther and the Church was, while Luther felt only the Scriptures should guide us, the Church felt Scripture and Tradition should.
             Luther was very troubled with certain wrongs of the Church, and he posted a list of ninety-five objections. After they were copied and circulated, the Pope forbade Luther to preach or write about his ideas. Luther didn't pay any attention so the Pope excommunicated him. Luther was not part of the Church anymore, so he gathered followers who were happy about him trying to reform the Church. Luther was backed by Princes and Nobles for political reasons, and eventually the Lutheran Church was formed.
