             Another basic contention of Foucault's is that in a capitalistic society, power structures are perpetuated. In such a system, the goal of every institution is not to exclude anybody, but to include; such a society demands that as many people as possible are rendered docile and are able to produce and contribute. Thus a society of normalization – and marginalization of abnormal people – is created. Society demands an "obedient subject" who will do good things and work hard – and if a subject is disobedient, he is subjected to rehabilitation. Either he will be sent to prison, which creates "an authority that is exercised continually around him and upon him and which he must allow to function automatically in him," or he is sent to school, "the site for moral instruction, classification, division, hierarchization... [resembling] in microcosm the principles of normalization, individuation and perpetual judgment.
