Samuel Adams : Radical Puritan

             Samuel Adams was born on September 7th, 1722. He grew up to attend the college of Harvard in which he graduated with a Master of Arts degree. As a private businessman, he was never very wealthy or poor but stayed in the middle of the economic ladder. He was very involved with local matters and town meetings and when his business finally failed he took on politics full time. In 1764, Adams was elected to the Massachusetts legislature. As Britain began to tighten it's grasp on the colonies, a committee was created and had Adams write the Declaration of Colonial Rights. He lead a great revolutionary tide culminating at the Boston Tea Party which was held. When the British passed the "Intolerable Acts", Adams lead a boycott against British goods. As a rising figure in the revolutionary community, he was sent with four others to the first Continental Congress in 1774. Samuel Adams was then elected as governor of Massachusetts in 1793 and served till 1797. Samuel Adams passed away in 1803 at the age of 81.
             Samuel Adams was a pivotal character in the revolution of our country from British control. As a man of middle economic status and being a worker himself, he gained the respect he deserved from the ordinary person. They trusted him as a respected member of the community and followed him to rebel against the British. As the country began to band together, Adams became more outspoken against his British oppressors by publishing revolutionary essays in papers and pushing for more to follow. His power was well known to the Bostonians who elected him to help lead the country in our fight. Adams was active in the constitutional committee which was evident as his signature being found on the bottom of the document.
