Egyptian state and the Monarchy. At that time, temples were built and dedicated to Amen throughout Egypt, including the Luxor Temple and the Great Temple at Karnak. His importance during this and later periods is evidenced by the granduer and extravagance of these temples. They were enlarged and enriched over the centuries by rulers of Egypt who were eager to express their devotion to Amen.
             Amen was the god the Egyptians believed contributed to their defeat of the Hyksos and due to this his popularity and importance grew and he soon became the ultimate of all gods which inturn gave more power and respect to his priesthood in the following Dynasty (XVII).
             Ahmose was the first Pharaoh of Dynasty XVIII. Due to the deaths of his father Seqenenre and his brother Kahmose with-in about three years of each other he was left heir to the throne. He came to power at a young age under the guidance of his own powerful mother Aahotep. He doesn't appear to have actually built many monuments and tributes to Amen. This may be due to the destruction of his buildings at the hands of a much later Pharaoh. We do know for sure that he did build a few additions to the temples of Amen. His lack of material support for the God is probably due to the fact that the priesthood of Amen and the god's popular public support didn't call for such spectacles and was not due to any disrespect for the god.
             The next Pharaoh Amenhotep which means "Amen is content". Despite the mention of the god in both his name and meaning there is little recorded evidence of Amenhotep's relationship with Amen, except for a gate he erected at the temples of Amen at Karnak. Like his predecessor this lack of material worship (monuments) is probably not due to any disbelief in the god but rather because of lack of support to do so.
