ocess of the brain. If it is something not too relevant to the left side, then it will be transferred through the corpus callosum to the right hemisphere for processing. The corpus callosum is the connection between the left and right hemispheres. The corpus callosum allows information to be processed in the more adequate hemisphere. The left side of your brain is known as your common sense and practical side such as figuring out math and logic problems. As you are reading, your left side is making connections and determines the meanings of the words, while putting it into a language you can understand. The left focuses on analyzing and making plans from the information gathered in the brain. A statement backs this from Pierce J. Howard, "...the rational mode is more left brained." (Howard, Pg 480) This shows that our left side is a critical, rational, and non-emotional based analyzer of certain information entering the brain.
The right cerebral hemisphere does different analyzing than that of the left hemisphere. The right side gathers the information to be analyzed by the left. The right side of the brain is more artistic and emotional, compared to the left side, which is analytical. As like the left, the right hemisphere controls the opposite side of the body. The right hemisphere controls the nonverbal functions. The functions of the right hemisphere include such things as recognizing differences in visual patterns and designs, reading maps and enjoying music. It is also the right hemisphere that is involved in expression and understanding of emotions. The following quote from Mapping the Mind supports the idea of there being differences in the functions performed by the right and left hemisphere of the brain. "The right brain is dreamier, it processes things in a holistic way rather than breaking them down and is more involved with sensory perception than abstract cognition." (Carter, Pg 36)
