Same Sex Marriage

             Out of the Closet, Into the Controversy
             Marriage is defined by most people as an institution between one man and one woman. This is the main statement presented when discussing the legalization of same-sex marriages. There has been much controversy surrounding this issue with most arguments revolving around equality rights, child rearing, and religious beliefs. Marriage should be recognized under the law not based on the gender of the people involved in the union, but on the love and devotion that those people feel for one another. It should be deemed unconstitutional not to allow same-sex marriages to occur because it violates these people's civil rights.
             The constitution was enacted to provide protection and equal rights to all citizens. These freedoms apply to homosexuals and heterosexuals alike in every aspect excluding marriage and the benefits that accompany it. This infringement shows that gay individuals are looked upon as unworthy to join in a union with the person they love. Homosexualty is a way of life and isn't something that can be changed on a whim because of societal disapproval. This is the way they live there lives and their rights should not be compromised because of it. The majority of society that has voiced there opinion on homosexuality and same-sex marriages has shown attitudes of unacceptance and disgust. This has already put much pressure on individuals to feel as if they have to hide there sexuality. Not allowing for the right of gay marriage proves that the feelings of disgust and unacceptance are symbolically held by all of society. How can this kind of discrimination against homosexuals and same sex marriage be accepted under the law?
