In the expository text Veiled Courage by Cheryl Benard, its purpose is to inform and educate the reader .The first chapter "men boys and dust" examines the main Ideologies of tragic death, dominance, abuse, gender apartheid and the coming together of all women in Afghanistan to overrun the totalitarian society that they live in today, in a group called RAWA the voice of all woman in Afghanistan. To live free and equal like the rest of western society. Stuck in solitude from the late 1970s to this day, Cheryl Bernard expresses the issues that all woman involved have to endure, and emphasizes what the extreme fundamentalists wish upon the rest of their very distraught society which is breaking up under their very feet today. through the first chapter and then in relation to the rest of the novel the use of repetition of points, case studies and structure presented in this text. These techniques help to present a image to the reader and a justified point of view how this problem is ongoing unless help is given.
             Through this novel the reader is encouraged to undertake the author's values and attitudes towards fundamentalists. Through the use of language an image is presented to the reader. The reader is positioned to feel sorrow towards woman and the young boys lost in their own society due to constraints placed against them and their mothers. "a woman alone was so vulnerable and helpless that you could not count her as a parent" this quote explores the state of woman and describes an image of how they felt and looked to the onlooker in the street.
