oing to be able to possibly end the war. August 6, 1945, the first atomic bomb ever used for war purposes was dropped. Anything within a 1.5 mile radius was destroyed about 200,000 people were killed.
             America afterward threatened Japan that they would drop another. Japan saw what happened and knew this was no hoax but it was the real thing. Never-the-less they ignores America's call for a peaceful end and claimed they did not believe America had another such bomb to drop. In part, they were right. The next one was even bigger.
             August 8, 1945, just three days after the first bomb, the second bomb was dropped. This was much bigger then the first was dropped on Nagasaki. It was less populated though, so only 70,000 people died due to it. This one did cause Japan to soon surrender. August 14, 1945 was the date. September 2, 1945, it was made official. The Japanese surrendered willing to do anything that America asked of them. America surprised Japan by making demands that actually helped Japan.
             The bombs created a temporary resolution that lead to another conflict. The Cold War was a political standoff between the Soviet Union and the United States that again created a new worldwide nuclear threat. The destructive potential of nuclear weapons had created a global sweep of fear as to what might happen if these terrible forces where unleashed again.
