Q: How do men in the story exploit Beatrice?
             Nathaniel Hawthorne was born in Salem, Massachusetts. Hawthorne was one of the first American writers to explore the hidden motivations of his characters. After his father was lost at sea when he was only four, his mother became overly protective and pushed him toward more isolated pursuits. Hawthorne's childhood left him overly shy and serious, and molded his life as a writer. Hawthorne passed away on May 19, 1864 in Plymouth, New Hampshire after a long period of illness. Hawthorne maintained a strong friendship with Franklin Pierce, but otherwise had few intimates and little engagement with any kind of social life. When he writes most of his stories, isolation is the main theme and I'm guessing his life is what influences him to write this stories such as Rappiccinni's Daughter.
             The three men in the story exploit Beatrice. Her father, Rappiccini, trapped her; her only lover, Giovanni, tries to change her and couldn't accept her for who she was, and her father's antagonist, uses her to get to her father, Rappiccini.
             Her father as one of his experiments manipulates Beatrice. She has been impregnated with poison since her birth by her father experiment. This poison is like her sister. Unfortunately, because it is deadly, she too becomes harmful. This means she must remain within the walls of her garden with the poisonous plant. One day a young man came to stay with their neighbor's room. In the beginning he was portrayed as a nice young man who seem to care about her and love her for who she is but in the mid of the story we realize that he is deceptive. He was the other man in her life that took advantage of her. Giovanni attempt to change her, she realizes he can't accept her for who she is. Which is poisonous caring lady who was trapped by her only father's experiment. He accuses her of poisoning him and confronts her with bitter words. She was just one poor normal human being w...
