The Facts About Homosexuality

             It is the year 2004, and as we, the majority of people in this society, settle down our their living rooms to absorb the lights and sounds of the greatest media form of the age, the television, we are repetitively hit with a message; homosexuality is a safe, adequate way of life, posing no harms to society and posing no threat to the continuance of our existence as a race. Increasing numbers of TV sitcoms e.g. Dawsons Creek, movies e.g. American Beauty and TV program's such as Queer Eye For The Straight Guy not only preach the message of homosexuality is acceptable, we are now being shown homosexual characters as serenely normal in contrast to the heterosexual characters who are portrayed as dysfunctional. Although these messages are being frequently repeated, one quote will remain in my memory for years to come. "Do you think I choose to be gay?" are the words said by the character playing Jack in popular Sitcom Dawsons Creek. The millions of teenagers watching this are being told that homosexuality is not an individual's choice, people are born that way. If this were true, I would currently be writing an article on why we must accept homosexuality in our society. However, homosexuality is not a genetically encoded condition. Contrary to all the media hype, there is no conclusive evidence showing any absolute biological, genetic, or hormonal causation for homosexuality. Homosexual activist and molecular biologist Dean Hamer's study are claiming the existence of a homosexual gene has been scientifically discredited. I do accept that some people's genes may give them a higher chance of having homosexual thoughts than others; however, it is also proven that certain people's genes give them a higher chance of feeling a need for alcohol. We do not say to these individuals that they may give into their harmful feelings, but rather we treat their condition and help them change.
