Friendship is an important thing to have and cherish although, by human nature, people can sometimes be cruel and unfair. Murder is a brutal act of turning against others in an attempt to take their life. When mixed, the two can be a terrible occurrence: loved ones killing loved ones. In Julius Caesar, the very interesting characters of Brutus and Cassius both participate in an act of murder and betrayal; however, their reasons differ greatly.
             Cassius and Brutus both conspire to plot against Caesar in an act of betrayal. For example, Brutus exclaims, "And therefore think of him as a serpent's egg,/Which hatch'd, would as his kind grow mischievous,/And kill him in the shell" (2.1.32). Brutus feels that if they do not kill Caesar now, while his is not harmful, he will later on cause disaster. Brutus fears Caesar being crowned king of Rome because Brutus feels Rome will not prosper and might even collapse. Furthermore, Cassius states," Then must I think you would not Cassius, yet I love him well" (1.2.81) Brutus replies. Brutus loves Caesar well, but loves Rome even more. If anything will get in the way of what is good for Rome, Brutus will surely put a stop to it even if it is his beloved friend Caesar. For whatever the reasons, Brutus and Cassius both have solid ground with the intentions they have for Caesar, whether if it is for the love for the Roman republic or just jealousy.
             Although, Brutus and Cassius both would not like to see Caesar crowned king, their ambitions differ greatly. For example, Cassius scoffs, "He had a fever when he was in
             Spain...His coward lips from their color fly...Alas, it cried, 'Give me some drink, Titinius', as a sick girl" (1.2.119). Cassius feels that Caesar portrays himself as a god even though he is weak. A weak leader would not satisfy the position for the king of Rome and might make the empire fall tragically. In
