Principals of Democracy

             America was founded on the principles of democracy but over the last couple of years it seems as if we are doing the exact opposite. This idea helped me to better understand why the American government has become an active participant in foreign affairs. After both discussing and watching a video on this topic I have been left with only one question was the war justified?
             The decision to go to war by the American government hasn't been proven to me. The war seems to have been one of choice rather than necessity. The Frontline documentary and in its manuscript it states, "the American public was told by the President and his administration that the U.S was going to war with Iraq because of an imminent threat placed by Saddam Hussein." We were led to believe that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction and was a threat to oppose terrorism on America. To date there haven't been any weapons of mass destruction found and that leads one to ask one question. Was the idea to launch a pre-emptive war the correct one?
             After realizing that their decision to go to war may have been the wrong one the President and his administration began to falsify the truth. They used evidence that was deemed irrelevant by American intelligence groups such as the CIA and the FBI. In his 2003 State of the Union address, Pres. Bush said there had been evidence that Iraq had purchased Uranium from Africa a key element in the production of nuclear weapons. Prior to the writing of this speech American intelligence groups proved the documents were forged to they were inconsequential. So, there lies another question if they were already proven wrong why were they still inserted in the speech?
             The Frontline documentary there were three separate instances where government officials made similar statements just as the President did in his State of the Union address. They also thought this helped to justify there reason to go to war. Their main stat...
