As a humanist Roger's believed the human being is not only unique but also has freedom of choice over their own destinies. His theory is built on the belief that all humans are born good and have the ability to self actualise; to develop or achieve ones full potential. This starts with the basic survival needs for things such as food and water and grows into the need for self-fulfilment in areas such as independence and creativity.
