             When faced with a direct threat, Stalin seemed to side with whoever would help him. A new alliance was formed with the Allies, but Stalin's mistrust of the west made him reluctant to share military information, so there was very little communication and cooperation between the two forces.
             Stalin's luck lay in the fact that he ended up siding with the west. Had Germany not invaded Russia the post-war world could have been very different. The Allied victory gave Russia the opportunity for expansion into a divided Europe. Stalin insisted on being involved in rebuilding the countries that Russia had 'liberated'.
