             The last big development in operating systems was to move onto the Graphical User Interface (GUI) operating system. The GUI was a massive leap in operating systems as it let in a whole new group of users. You no longer needed to remember the massive amount of commands that you had to use with CLI's with GUI's everything is just a few clicks away. With GUI's you use your mouse to interact with icons and controls. The first GUI was developed at Xerox PARC and commercialized as Xerox Star. I have mainly used GUI's and find them easy to use and pleasant to the eye.
             All modern day general purpose desktop computers need an operating system to function if there was no operating system it would simply not work.
