             Congres Internationaux d'Architecture Moderne (CIAM)
             The Congres Internationaux d'Architecture Moderne started in 1928 as
             24 architects signed a declaration. The CIAM was formed as a way of
             unifying architecture. combining the ideas of the group, and forming
             agreements that would allow architecture to move forward. While the group
             was made up of 24 architects, this was not the limit of its influence. The
             CIAM was considered as an educated body of architects, and large numbers of
             European architects accepted the CIAM as offering guidance.
             The first meeting held in 1928 set the basic ideals of the CIAM. Its
             focus was mainly on architecture as meeting social and economic needs.
             This focus meant that the idea of architecture as art was minimized, with
             the main focus being on architecture in a practical sense. The objective
             of the group was to create ideal, efficient spaces for individuals, while
             incorporating minimum living standards. These basic ideas persisted as the
             basis for the CIAM as it progressed.
