             Young G. Young (1995) has made some sound observations about elder abuse in
             the United States of America. According to statistics there are about
             550,000 cases of elder abuse in the United States each year but only a
             small number is reported. She feels that a person has to be wiser to the
             situation and should recognize the signs of elder abuse in an elderly
             person. Elder abuse was non-existent till the 1980s and was hardly
             recognized as a problem. She says that cases of elder abuse from the period
             1986 to 1996 increased 150 percent. Most of these cases involve white
             victims and take place in domestic settings. However this hasn't risen as
             much as a storm as it has with child abuse. (Young G. Young, 1995)
