             behaviors, attitudes, and personality characteristics that are associated
             with each of the genders. In considering sexual stereotypes, I am sure I
             have had them applied to me, with people assuming certain things about me
             based on my gender. However, since gender stereotypes are based on
             personally assuming certain things about each gender, it is easier to
             recognize what stereotypes I have applied, then to consider what ones may
             have been applied to me. In considering what gender stereotypes I have
             applied, I have realized that the stereotypes I hold are operating in
             almost every situation. While I can say that I do recognize that not all
             men and women are the same, there are still many aspects that I consider to
             be associated more with one gender than the other. An example that made me
             very aware of my stereotypes occurred very recently when a police officer
             friend referred to a difficult domestic violence case he had been involved
             in that day. He did not provide any details about the case, but said that
             domestic violence is one of the worst parts of his job and that today's was
             very difficult for him. As he stated this, I immediately assumed that the
             case he was referring to involved a husband abusing his wife. At the time,
             I made a comment telling the police officer that he should feel good
             knowing that he had helped a woman today and should remember that what he
             does is worthwhile. The police officer then informed me that the case he
             was referring to was a woman abusing her husband, and not a husband abusing
             his wife. This made me realize that I had immediately assumed that the
