             The use of spanking as a method of discipline has advantages and
             disadvantages depending on how it is employed to a child. This paper will
             provide several guidelines on how to use spanking as a responsible form of
             discipline. Further, in situations where spanking can be avoided, we will
             discuss alternative methods of giving discipline to a child.
             Argument #1 : "Spanking can lead a parent to use more severe forms of
             physical punishment and eventually lead to child abuse."
             Some parents use spanking as a means of establishing discipline to a child.
             For instance, when a child misbehaves or commits an offense, the parent
             spanks the child to let him know that what he did is unacceptable. Because
             of the pain that the parent inflicts on the child, the parent hopes
             that the child will realize his mistakes, will never commit the same
             mistake again, and will live by in the parent's expectations to avoid
             experiencing again the pain of receiving a spank. However, these purposes
             and goals of spanking are not always achieved in every home environment.
             There are cases when a child does not produce positive reactions and
             positive behavioral results to spanking, such as learning from his
             mistakes. Thus, he constantly repeats the same offense. Some parents of
             such type of child, who believe that children will learn from their
             mistakes through corporal punishments, resorts to severe form of punishment
             when their child shows no behavioral changes despite of the previous
             spanking he experienced. With the more severe form, the parent hopes that
             it will bring a stronger attention of discipline to the child. A
