Although Oedipus's real parents tried to prevent the prophesy from happening, the same was Oedipus had attempted to prevent his own from happening, the prophesies had been predetermined moira (fate) controlled by God and impossible to avoid or change. Oedipus was found to be guilty of killing the late King. His mother, now his wife, was proof that you cannot change fate no matter what you do. Because Oedipus was so disgusted of himself and what was around him he banished himself from civilization forever and physically blinds himself so that he can never see what he has done again.
             B. Through the common use of literary techniques, Sophocles expresses themes and ideas that reflected humankind. One particular idea that Sophocles focused on in The Three Theban Plays was that of hubris. Sophocles perceived hubris as being destructive and its exploitation would eventually lead to one's demise. In order to convince his audience of the morality that lay beneath his beliefs he used varying situations in different character's lives that would end up in destruction due to their hubris. Oedipus, the proud king of Thebes in The Three Theban Plays is one of the many characters that illustrated the use of such a fatal flaw. His hubris alienates Teiresias, Creon, and his people. Within the book Teiresias attempts to explain to Oedipus the severity of his actions if they were to be carried out, but Oedipus only shuns Teiresias. He accuses him of being disloyal and being succumbed to bribery.
