             As a software engineer, I feel mildly threatened by file sharing
             applications. On the one hand, I can imagine the countless dollars that I
             could have made had each person bought my product rather than downloaded it
             for free off of some user halfway across the world. On the other hand, I
             also know that for the most part, the people who are downloading pirated
             versions of my software are test driving it and wouldn't have actually
             bought it to begin with. In the same way, musicians probably aren't losing
             as much money as we imagine because many of the people who trade music
             online eventually buy the CDs that really jump out at them.
             Having said that, I also realize that much of the time, computer users
             do take full advantage of the media and are essentially stealing my work
