             man who will never leave. This is reflected in the repetitive language of
             Arnie too as he yells over and over in a singsong voice "we aren't going no
             where, we aren't going no whereâ€." Gilbert is stuck. He is challenged by
             the weight of his responsibilities and walking through his life as if he is
             asleep, or worse as if he has disappeared, the greatest fear of his family.
             Gilbert's mother is always asking everyone to stop disappearing like that,
             as if the worst thing that could happen would be for anyone to leave her,
             Things begin to change for Gilbert when he meets Becky. Becky was an
             elusive figure from the first scene of the film, silently watching the
             world of Endora go through its routines, of Arnie climbing the water tower
             and Gilbert coaxing him down and the dreary challenges of the daily dull
