             However, Balanchine's talents were not fully utilized by the Met, and by
             1941, he and Kerstein created another short-lived ballet company, the
             American Ballet Caravan, that completed a five-month tour of South America
             before it disbanded. In 1946, the two men founded the Ballet Society,
             which presented dances by subscription to members in New York. By 1948,
             this small company evolved into the New York Ballet, and Balanchine had
