In The Godfather we see Vito Corleone manning the reigns as Don. He has a fatherly demeanor, and takes care of the business with this same style. This reflects the family-oriented and patriarchal sensibilities of early 20th century America as well. Then, in The Godfather II, the business is passed to Vito's son, Michael it takes on a more corporate feeling, with Michael more as a CEO than a fatherly figure.
