Marx believed in a materialist view of history, and saw the most important part of a social life as being the work that individuals were doing. This was especially true of work that resulted in the basic necessities such as shelter, clothing, and food. The value of society therefore resulted from human labor, and everything that men and women were doing to create society and shape it actually created the conditions for their very own existence (McClelland, 2000). Naturally, it can be seen how this would be important, because working for the greater good of society and to shape it appropriately for the citizens in it is a noble cause. However, those that have gone to Iraq, from the United States and other countries, have worked to change Iraq into the country that they want, instead of the country that the Iraqi people want. This is unfortunate for the Iraqi people, who likely have not heard of Marx and would not agree with him if they did. Many of them are now more unhappy than they were when Saddam Hussein was in power, and this comes as a surprise to those that are over in that country, trying to save it from itself. Th
