The party conducts the majority of its operations in the Middle east, Europe and Turkey though it has been linked with terrorist plots and movements in other parts of the world as well.
Several nations have provided safe havens for members of the PKK including Syria, Iran and Iraq though at times Syria and Iran have given the appearance of working with Turkey to squash the PKK movement.
The party itself is considered a Marxist separatist group. In its beginning the main goal of the party was to create an independent Kurdish state by which its members would have the political, cultural and linguistic freedoms and identity that other nations enjoy.
