d sunny, with a northeasterly wind of approximately 5-10 mph. The temperature was 48 F at the time of the accident. The relative humidity was at 60.1%. The worker was not wearing protective clothing and recommended PPE, as indicated by a sign posted in the area. The worker was not wearing safety glasses with side shields. The methanol spilled onto both hands and forearms below the elbow. He did not splash any of the material into his eyes, but did spill some onto his feet. He was wearing steel toed shoes, but was not wearing neoprene boots or gloves. He was not wearing spark- resistant Tyveks at the time.
             The employee immediately became dizzy and reported a headache. The incident was witness by another employee who immediately donned the proper PPE and removed the employee to the safety shower. The employee was seated on a chair and his body was rinsed from the top down with the safety shower hose. An ambulance was called and the employee was transported to the local emergency room.
             The drum was located inside a designated, barricaded hazardous storage area. All barrels in this area are situated on a concrete underlayment with a 2 inch layer of sand on top. Additional sand bags and other spill equipment is located within the area. Signage instructs employees as to the proper handling of spillage incidents. Two Scott Air Packs are located in the area as well, clearly marked. The employee did not follow posted instructions for transfer of hazardous material in this area. Spill protocol was not followed immediately, as the emergency care of the employee took precedent as the immediate need. A team as called within 2 minutes of the incident who were trained in proper spill procedures.
