The client and therapist develop a personal relationship. Rogers is also the first to have introduced the term "client" rather than "patient" in order to suggest a more equal relationship between the client and therapist. This is in keeping with the relationship that is envisioned as the ideal between them. This then entails that the therapist asks clarifying questions in an informal and friendly manner. These questions are then to be experienced as non-threatening, while at the same time placing responsibility upon the client to find his or her own solutions.
             The most important barrier in Jane's situation is the fact that her own personality is somewhat dwarfed by those of her family.
