Start of Burr's Differences with Hamilton
             Hamilton had shrewdly cultivated close relations with Washington during the war, and when Washington became the US President, he promptly chose him as his Secretary of Treasury. Hamilton soon became President Washington's most trusted adviser and exercised a strong influence on the country's policies, steering it in the direction of a strong central government, constitutionalism, and mercantilism.
