             First and foremost, the idea of the perpetuation of poverty from one generation to another as described by the culture of poverty theory is considered by the author as being insufficient to properly describe the events that take place in the Puerto Rican neighborhood. According to the actual theory, poor people adapt to their status of being poor and inside their communities they tend to establish areas which are deemed to promote further poverty cases and situations in which selling drugs becomes a way of life and a means to earn a living.
