If Obama is elected president, he will represent the effort of Civil Rights leaders in America dating back to President Abraham Lincoln, overcoming a long and often tragic and dangerous road in race relation that has lead America to the place and time when a Black man may be elected the next American president of the United States.
             Racism can be traced to the earliest periods of human history and is usually accompanied by periods of war and violence. The trading of individuals for enslaved labor is one of the recurring themes in the Bible (Soggin, A., 1976). Indentured servitude was just another form of slavery, and people often died before freeing themselves of their indebtedness (Smith, W.B., 1961; Johnson, H., 1996). The enslavement of another human being arises out of one group believing the other to be inferior, or in some way, financially, morally, or physically, and in some instances all of lesser value as human beings such that the loss of the group believed to be inferior would not be a loss that would be problematic amongst the population within which they reside.
             It was this thinking, that other groups, especially other non-European groups, were of lesser value to their society, as well as that of European society, that proved to be the undoing of colonialism. England, France, Portugal, Spain, Germany and other European nations that colonized Asia, the Middle East, Africa, the Americas, and the islands of the pacific, treated the indigenous peoples as people of inferior races, assigning them the roles of wait staff, servants, and other menial stations of servitude in their own countries. The manifestations of colonialism, the rebelliousness of the indigenous populations, continue to be a source social and psychological study, literature, and filmmaking today; such as British colonial and post-colonial India.
