parents who neglect to educate them correctly, and therefore the children will not be able to fulfill their utmost potential. Also, many parents only care about money or power and these are not proper ideals for children to seek. If the children are raised by this kind of parent, they, too, will grow up wanting only money and power, and they will neglect their intellectual education. He also believed that there are exceptional children who should be especially schooled by the best teachers and be subject to a rigid discipline that grows stricter each year. In other words, these children with "philosophical" minds should go to the best and hardest schools and groomed to become the leaders of society. He believed that children should not be exposed to "dangerous" art, but should be able to experience fighting and war first-hand. The children would also receive instruction in speech, music and gymnastics, which are good for the soul and the body, he says (Socrates, l. 375).
