One day Brian Robeson got on a plane in Hampton, New York to go visit his father. He and the pilot were flying peacefully to Canada when the pilot clutched his left arm and had a heart attack. Brian tried to radio for help, but he was too far away from the airport tower. The plane got off course and Brian was getting very worried, because he did not know how to fly a plane. As the plane continued to fall, he decided to take the plane down, but he thought that he was going to die. After the plane crashed he could not figure out where he was except that he was surrounded by trees, rocks, and ledges. Brian realized that there was no one around to rescue him, and because he is alone he has to face major conflicts: hunger, wild animals, shelter, warmth and being rescued. Once Brian crashes, he realizes that he is going to be stranded there for a little while so he should build a shelter and find something to eat. First, he finds an opening in a ledge and decides that that can be his home for a while. When he realizes he is not going to be rescued right away, he has to get food like berries and fish. He has to figure out how to make a fire to survive the cold and avoid animals that can hurt him such as bears, porcupines and insects like mosquitoes. He tries to get fish by using a spear, but he is to slow to catch them. While he is making a bow and arrow to spear the fish faster, he hears a buzzing sound coming from far away. As it gets closer, he realizes that it is the engine sound of a rescue plane. He runs to start his signal fire, but he is too late. The plane has turned around to go back. He says to himself now that the plane has left, how will he survive. Read this book to find out how he survives the dangers of the forest.
