Without Jack and Ralph the demise of the boys would have never happened.
             During the novel The Lord of the Flies the way the boys work and act together gets progressively worse and worse. This can be seen to be the work of Jack and Ralph as they fight against each other for supremacy, but if they were taken out of the picture it would be the same, another boy would take over being the strongest or the smartest. Golding was trying to get this message across, the strongest lead while the weakest follow.
             Jack and Ralph are among the oldest boys on the island. They both have leadership qualities with Ralph being described as strong, having the build of a boxer, and Jack having already been the leader of the choir and used to control. Take these two away and the next strongest or smartest would prevail.
             The demise of the boys is not only due to Jack and Ralph's squabbling between each other. It has to do with the way human nature works. Without Jack and Ralph the boys might even have gone into savagery faster then they had, the progression would not have been stopped by Ralph's rules and his way of leading. Ralph shows how to resist the beast and to continue to live like they used to.
             Without Jack and Ralph the boys would of still progressed down the road to savagery. This may have happened even faster than it did with them around because of the likes of Roger. So, without Jack and Ralph the demise of the boys would have happened and might even have gone faster than it did.
