re in limited supply, or in some parts there may have even been policies in place that banned them from the general public so to reserve them for the higher beings of that particular society. That being said, things have drastically changed over time. Starting in the late 1400's for the most part, we started to see the beginning of a new realm of ideas. The governments and leaders of different countries began to set out chartered explorations in search of new lands. During their explorations, they would seek new and unexplored lands. They would claim the lands that were not inhabited as their own and if already inhabited, they would battle and conquer natives. They then would train and put the natives to work as slaves so that they could begin to reap the benefits of the new lands for their own economic advantages back home. These voyages and the colonization of new worlds started the economic trade development throughout the world. After migrating to the new lands and finding the new raw materials, they would them transport them back home and around the world. With this new business taxes and tariffs were brought into the picture. Then the first trade companies began to surface, and thus our first look at an overall economic theme that the world seemed to thrive on. We called this mercantilism. From the time of the first voyages, "the dominant economic philosophy of the seventeenth century was mercantilism, which advocated a close alliance between the sovereign and commercial interests." (Rodrik 2011, page 8) Having a strictly political role, the overall agenda was the creation of monopolies and complete power over these international trading rights to ensure that nothing would come between the government and the benefits that such trading brought in. This innovation of international trade and markets was the first role "globalization" played in developing our modern day economy.
