The lack of acknowledgement of such experiences erases the atrocities done by Whites to Blacks through enslavement and forced labor. The legacy of slavery as Walters suggest an inclusion of the erasure of Black enslavement as tool that helped construct the identity and society of America.
             The notion of Black inferiority that slavery has posed has contributed to the current oppression of Blacks. As Walter mentions, "Black inferiority has been presented to the American people in the form of the argument that Blacks are intellectually inferior to whites(Walters,85)." This social construction of Blacks as intellectually inferior continues the legacy of slavery- oppression and dehumanization of Blacks. The oppression of Black has been subjugated to scrutiny and whites never fail to justify the oppression of Black. The most popular justification is based on genetics; according to the white superiority ideology, Blacks were inherently made inferior, it is in their genetics. The justification that Blacks are intellectually inferior stems from the argument that whites are made superior because they poses certain genetics that make them so. This "scientific" explanation is socially constructed by Whites to legitimize the further oppression of Blacks while contradicting say America is now fair to Blacks.
