Atkin argues his claims by interviewing an individualist, Mac-using writer, who successfully contributes his work to journals and articles. The Mac user says "a Mac made me creative. No, actually I was creative to begin with, and in some ways they made me more creative". This quote draws attention to a very close relationship between the writer and Apple. Atkin says, "It [Mac] has taken the part of his identity that he considers his most defining characteristic, his creativity, and accelerated it". The writer also says that apple made him "more himself", in which he thanks Apple. Apple products induce a specific way of thinking. Atkin says the Apple system created a cult-like status because Apple challenged the norm, thus increasing the consumer's devotion to the brand more than their want to buy the product.
