Scene Investigator. You can become a Crime Scene Technician without becoming a police officer but you must be hired by a police department, you will not make as much money, and you need just as much education (Crime Scene Investigator). You will have to go through extensive background checks, a physical test, a psychological exam, a polygraph, and a credit check just to be considered for both the police department and becoming a CSI (Crime Scene Investigator Network). You will have to work as a police officer in the lower positions for many years before being able to apply for a CSI position. While working as a police officer you should try to take all the opportunities you can to help process crime scenes. You should also read as much material as you can on being a CSI. There are many things you need to know when entering a crime scene. First and foremost, you must be very careful not to contaminate the scene.
