             One of the most important ways to maintain an idea is to make that idea look great in the eyes of the future, the young children of the present. The party of 1984, as well as the communists of Soviet Russia, manipulated the youth. Winston's society, Oceania, manipulated youth using children's books. Winston demonstrated this when "He picked up the children's history book and looked at the portrait of Big Brother gazing down which formed its front piece" (Orwell, 71). The youth of today forms the entire future, and the Soviet Party seemed to have the same idea on its mind. Wiley Blackwell, a historian of Russia, mentions how, "Children's writers used science and technology to use as tropes to create visions of the Soviet Union as a modernist utopia" (Blackwell, 12). When the Communists can brainwash the majority of the young people, the future will hold less people who oppose them. The Communists, as well as Oceania's Party in the eyes of the children, will seem great. As the children grow, they will become accustomed to Communism and it will seem normal to them. The children's opinions should not change since Communism has been ingrained into their minds.
