thing? Do they really enhance the social networking experience? On one
hand, there is always the argument that as long as there is still a means
of communicating the excess games are not a problem, but with the ever so
popular news feed feature, do we really care that Conor is in desperate
need of a cow? Not really. The fact that Facebook has turned into a place
where we strictly speak the language of "Facebook" is completely absurd. I
cannot emphasize enough what the main purpose of Facebook is, but once
again, it is for reconnecting and communicating. But apparently,
reconnecting and communicating means precisely doing those things that only
involve Facebook. There are more status' that consist of needing animals
for Farmville, someone to do your "fast money" on Family Feud, and another
person wanting more comments on their "new profile picture," than actual
statuses about people's days, the weather, or the main purpose of the
Facebook status: What are you doing? Although this is still considered
communicating, it is important to look at what we are communicating about.
We aren't talking about our days, or how our jobs are going and family
issues. We are talking about things that only happen on Facebook. Which
shows how much it is consuming our lives.
Although Facebook is designed for just about anybody nowadays, it is
most popular with high school and college students. The problems of being a
teenager have been ever so popular but with constant communication with
friends and access to just about anyone in your class who has a Facebook,
have the typical problems with being a teen enhanced? Absolutely. Bullying
and Cyber-bullying have always been a big issue with teens, but in recent
years cyber-bullying has increased because of these social networking
websites with Facebook being the highest at 50.8% (Hinduja and Patchin)
