Sharp fought for Strong's rights to stay in Britain; Sharp helped many more slaves that were residing in Britain not to be sent back to the West Indies while campaigning against the slave trade.
             Another notable individual was William Wilberforce, the leader of the movement to abolish the slave trade. He was a member a parliament hence and a crucial person to influence powerful MP's. Wilberforce organised many petitions, one of which contained more than 800,000 signatures (approximately 10 per cent of Britain at that time) and was rolled down the floor of the House of Commons.
