             Both of these plays involve cherished properties on the verge of being sold. However, they take different paths to becoming sold. In the Cherry Orchard, the Orchard had to be sold because neither Madam Ranevsky nor Gayof have the money to pay the debts they established. In the Octoroon, the Terrebonne was being sold because of the beneficence of Georges Uncle. Another thing to observe is that The Cherry Orchard doesn't include slaves unlike the Terrebonne. The slaves at the Terrebonne were sold separately at an auction.
