as a syndrome that can emerge after exposure to horrific, life threating events, symptoms including: nightmares, vivid sensory recollections, tension, and irritability (American Psychiatric Association.) Moreover, the condition's characteristics in a soldier returning from war can be much more severe and go far beyond the textbook description. It is up to the community in which the troops are returning to recognize and understand these characteristics in order to aid them in moving forward.
             In response to previous wars, which led to up to 25 percent of veterans experiencing PTSD, authorities have taken the initiative to introduce precautionary measures when preparing troops for war in the Middle East. These methods include, preventative techniques, debriefing and early detection. Nonetheless, the prognosis stands strong. Veterans of the recent wars in the Middle East are vexed, having to return home only to face criticism rather than concern.
