Pavel. The conflict between Pavel Petrovitch and Bazarov derives from the complicated characterizations of both men; displaying the opposition of the generations.
             Pavel Petrovitch, a man of pride and honor represents the traditional generation. He regards his generation as the one built with a sense of establishment and self-worth. During most of his encounters with Bazarov, he takes it upon himself to defend the principles and values of his time. As Pavel defends his beliefs, a sample of hatred can be found for the reforms of which Bazarov and Arkady speak of; he puts it
