The Thousand and One Nights

             The Thousand and One Nights is the world-wide classical literature which the Arabic literature has attributed to it. There are different theories about the origin and the formation period of this work, but the theory which manifests it has been originated from India and passed by Persia and been developed and completed in Arab is the dominant opinion. It is composed by innumerable anonymous writers during long period, and it contains many characters and motifs and plots in the ocean of the stories moving from the real life to the imaginative life. So it is harmonized with the reality and the imagination by the characters of the human beings and the animals and the jinn. Especially the women characters have the leading and active roles in the stories. This article studies the roles of the women characters and the female jinn' s characters in the book.
             The women appear as the queens or the princesses or the slaves or the military leaders or the mothers or the daughters in the stories. They influence the men's life by the sharp intelligence and the abundant sensibility and by the delicate and soft attitudes and sometimes by the adventurous and rebellious behaviors. The women's roles can be divided into the women falling in love with the men and the intelligent women and the women match-makers and the warring women.
             The women falling in love with the men occupy the great part of the stories. The love between a woman and a man begins when they meet at the• first sight. But they confront many difficulties to marry or enjoy the happy life. So the women try to conquest the deadlocks and the difficulties and reach the final goal of love by the wisdom and the adventures. In the story of the prince Taj al-Mulok and the princess Dunya,Zl Taj al-Mulilk hears about Dunya and goes to meet her, but she refuses to meet him because she hates the men.
