A gable is the part of a wall that encloses the end of a pitched roof (Webster Dictionary). This line is illustrating that she puts a wall up to block out the outside world that she doesn't belong to. She is detached from the real world and is completely indifferent.
             Another example of this is in stanza two, "I make houses shrink and trees diminish." This is showing how she cuts of the world but also how she believes she is in total control. One line that really stuck with me is when she described people in her society. She says, " My looks leash dangles the puppet people" This line is stating her impression on society. Since she is a solipsist and lives in her own reality, the people in society are not real to her. She calls them puppets, which also means she believes she is control of them. She believes that people in her own mind are just puppets us to fill the spaces in the imagination. It is impossible for to her consider other people as real or individuals because that is not how they are made to be in her mind. The whole poem exemplifies a woman who believes in a world that is created by her. For a solipsist things exist because they are perceived to exist. She basically sees the world through the eyes of her mind. By being so detached she is escaping reality and making her own reality. This is why this poem represents the idea of escapism.
             I believe that Patrick Bateman from "American Psycho" is an extreme escapist. He escapes reality by trying extremely hard to escape societies expectations by defying social norms. It is very important for him to feel powerful within his community when everyone he is associated with is basically equal. I came across a quot
