             Around 3 a.m. the Southern army awakens to prepare for their next attack. At noon the confederates begin to move in and plan to attack the left flank so that Ewell can take over the hills. Chamberlain has arrived and is holding the left flank where the confederates are attacking. His corps is hit hard and he takes fire himself; he places his brother on the front line to fill a hole which he later regrets. They lose one hundred men and most of their ammunition. In a last minute, desperate call, Chamberlain commands his men to attack with their bayonets. The attack proves to be a good idea as the Union makes the Confederates turn back with nothing aside from their bayonets. Longstreet is blamed for the loss of 8000
